FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A comeback by the Sacred Heart University men's volleyball team was thwarted by LIU on Friday. The Pioneers lost 3-2 (25-23, 25-20, 22-25, 15-25, 15-11).

In the fifth set, an
Aaron Peterson kill tied the frame at 3-3. LIU responded with three-straight points and that was enough of a margin to hold off the Pioneers. SHU pulled within 7-6 on a
Dylan McClung ace, but the Sharks rattled off three-straight points to put the set out of reach.
Sacred Heart had an early lead in the opening frame, but allowed LIU to creep back into the match.
Mark Berry's kill tied the set, 23-23, but an LIU kill and ace gave the visitors the set.
After dropping the second set, Sacred Heart grabbed a 20-15 lead in the third stanza thanks to four Shark errors and a
Patrick Mucherino ace. Set four was all Pioneers as a Mucherino kill and ace staked SHU to a 9-3 advantage on their way to forcing a fifth set.
Neither team could get stops offensively as the Pioneers hit. 322, but were outdone by the Sharks at .368.
Mucherino paced the Pioneers with 13 kills while
Ife Loverton posted 10. The duo also led in blocking with five and three, respectively.
Tyler Kwinta notched a match-high 42 assists and
Cole Younger had nine digs.
