Fourth Inning Rally Not Enough in 6-3 Loss at FAU

Both Pioneer pitchers earned a season-high strikeouts with eight total

BOCA RATON, Fla. — Despite three hitless innings, the Sacred Heart University broke the streak in the top of the fourth to cut Florida Atlantic's lead to three in Friday's 6-3 loss.

Of Note:
The Owls scored all six of their runs in the opening two innings, including a two-run homer in the second.

Justin Jordan ignited the strong three-run fourth inning with a single up the middle for the Pioneers' first hit of the game. In the next two at bats, Sam Mongelli singled through the right side to put Jordan in scoring position before Robert Farruggio brought him home. Michael Hernandez's sacrifice fly to center field brought in the second run as Mongelli scored. Ryan Donnelly topped off the inning with a single up the middle for SHU's final run by Farruggio.

Chase Jeter stepped on the mound first for the Red & White for five innings of work and a season-high five strikeouts. The left-hander denied a hit in the fourth and fifth innings and retired eight-straight.

Coming in as relief in the sixth, Michael Attonito faced 10 batters and only allowed a one hit. In his longest appearance this season of three innings, Attonito closed out the game with a season-high three strikeouts.
