Pioneers Begin Series With Bentley Thursday

FAIRFIELD, Conn.
- The Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey team returns home to host a pair of games against Bentley beginning Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at Webster Bank Arena. 
 
Last Time Out... The Pioneers are coming off a 4-1 victory over Holy Cross which helped split the series as they fell the previous night by a score of 1-0. Junior Neil Shea led the Pioneers with three points featuring a pair of goals for his first multi-goal game of the season.
 
Last Meeting... The last time the Pioneers faced the Falcons came on January 15 when the Pioneers narrowly fell to Bentley 4-3. On the previous night, SHU defeated Bentley by a score of 5-1. Nick Boyagian and John Jaworski each tallied three points in the victory.
 
Scouting The Falcons... Bentley enters Thursday's matchup with a 12-13-1 overall record and 10-9-1 AHA record. The Falcons are coming off a pair of losses to Niagara on Feb. 4-5. Leading the team on offense is Drew Bavaro who leads the team in goals, assists and points. Meanwhile guarding the pipes sits Evan DeBrouwer who tallies a record of 7-3-1 and GAA of 2.48.

Magera Named Walter Brown Award Semifinalist... Senior forward Austin Magera was named a semifinalist for the Walter Brown Award as announced by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston on Monday. The award is presented to the best Division 1 American-born collegiate hockey player in New England. The Suwanee, Ga. native became the fourth men's ice hockey player in program history to be named a semifinalist. Magera is on track for a career season as he as registered seven goals alongside 13 assists for 20 points in 21 games played. He also has registered a plus/minus rating of +5. The Gridiron Club will announce the finalists and winner of the 70th Walter Brown Award in March before the start of NCAA Tournament play.  
 
Shea Stealing the Show.... Junior forward Neil Shea has been having a career season for the Pioneers registering eight goals, and 13 assists for a team leading 21 points. He sits tied for fifth in Atlantic Hockey in points while tallying four multi-point games which include a 2 goal, 1 assist showing in the Pioneers 4-1 victory over Holy Cross.

Robbins Robbing Goals.... Goalie Justin Robbins currently leads the Atlantic Hockey Association in goals against average allowing just 2.39 goals per game. Overall, he tallies a 7-8-3 record with a save percentage of .908.

Penalties Aren't An Issue....The Pioneers currently tally the lowest penalties in minutes per game in the nation which sits at 7.32. Meanwhile Bentley enters Thursday's series with the ninth highest penalties in minutes per game at 14.00.
