OPENING TIP

  • Sacred Heart snapped a four-game losing streak with an overtime win at St. Francis Brooklyn. Four Pioneers grabbed double-digits led by Tyler Thomas with 20. Sophomore Nico Galette also added his fifth double-double of the year with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
  • Bryant's Pete Kiss is back for the Bulldogs after a two-game suspension following their clash with LIU. In his absence, Charles Pride put up huge numbers with 44 points at Saint Francis and 32 at Mount St. Mary's. As a result, Pride picked up Lou Henson National Player of the Week honors.
  • In SHU's last meeting with Bryant, the Pioneers fell narrowly, 85-82, despite a double-double effort from Galette with 18 points, 16 rebounds, and an added four assists. Senior Aaron Clarke was the high scorer for the Red & White with 21.
  • The last time SHU fell to Bryant at the Pitt Center was in 2018 in a narrow 79-74 decision.

TYLER T, MVP?
Tyler Thomas leads the Pioneers in scoring averaging 17.6 points per game and has posted double-digits in all but two games this season. In 11 of SHU's 22 games, Thomas led the team in scoring, including a season-high 30-point performance at URI, and most recently with a 20-point performance at St. Francis Brooklyn. This season Thomas has accumulated six 20-point games and is second in the league with 388 points on the season. The local New Haven product is also one of the NEC's best three-point shooters as he leads in total three-point FG attempts (339) and makes (148).

OKAY NICO
Sophomore Nico Galette has posted double-digit scoring performances in six of the first nine NEC games including a career-high 20 points at LIU. Galette continued to find success in Brooklyn when he grabbed his fifth double-double of the season at St. Francis with 12 points and a team-high 13 rebounds. He is the top rebounder in the NEC with 8.4 rebounds per game and 184 total rebounds. Against NEC foes, Galette has gathered 72 for an average of 8.0. a night. Thanks to a pair of double-doubles early in NEC play, Galette boasts the second most in the conference behind Bryant's Charles Pride with eight.

FIFTH YEAR BEST YEAR
Graduate student Alex Watson posted his first career 20-point performance at Mount St. Mary's with a career-best 22 points. Watson shot 6-of-11 from the field and netted a career-high five three-pointers (5-8) as he led the team in scoring for the first time this season. It marked the third time this season that Watson notched a new career-high in scoring. In addition, the Pioneers are 5-4 when Watson puts up double-figures and 3-10 on the latter. Watson's 10-point performance in SHU's OT win at St. Francis Brooklyn was just the second time in NEC play that he hurdled the double-digit mark.
