Of Note:
The teams battled evenly for the first 16 minutes until a fire alarm went off at the 3:47 mark which caused a 45-minute delay before the teams were allowed to return to the gym. Both teams were allotted a 15-minute warmup before finishing the final minutes of the first half. The Pioneers were trailing, 20-17, when the alarm sounded, but Galette scored five unanswered points after returning to the floor. The score flipped back to the Terrier's favor, 27-25, at the half.
Late into the second half, St. Francis went on a 7-0 run to grow to its largest lead of the night but the Pioneers immediately responded with 11-straight to take a two-point advantage, 55-53, in the final minute. The Terriers hit a long two just as the buzzer hit to send the game into overtime.
After St. Francis notched the first basket of overtime, SHU took off on a 7-0 run that was capped off by a block and fast break layup from Thomas. The run was enough to give Sacred Heart the edge it needed to finish the game.
The Pioneers dominated the glass and outrebounded St. Francis Brooklyn by double digits, 53-37, with 18 coming from the offensive end. The 18 offensive boards resulted in 21 second chance points as the Pioneers limited the Terriers to just 13 offensive rebounds and 13 second chance points.
The 55 points that was scored in regulation was the lowest that the Pioneers not only scored but held a Division I opponent to. The 66 points that SHU finished with was the lowest the team put up and still walked away with the victory. Behind the arc, the Pioneers posted just three three-pointers in 12 attempts which is the lowest so far this season.
Thomas shot 6-of-12 from the field for his eighth 20-point performance so far this season. Galette tallied his fourth career double-double with an impressive stat line of 12 points, 13 rebounds, and five assists. The sophomore also led the team with two steals. Clarke shot 5-of-16 for 12 points while
Alex Watson finished with two of SHU's three-pointers. Watson was 2-for-3 from behind the arc and 4-of-6 from the field with and added seven rebounds which marks a career-best.
