RICHMOND, Va. — Despite knotting the game at two apiece, the Sacred Heart University baseball team narrowly fell 3-2 to the University of St. Thomas in game one of the doubleheader hosted by the University of Richmond. The Pioneers also lost to Richmond, 23-2, in the second game on Saturday.

The Pioneers capitalized on a pitching error that advanced
Sam Mongelli to second which eventually sent him home off a sacrifice fly by
Joe Emerson. Two batters later,
Robert Farruggio reached on an error by the centerfielder that brought pinch-runner
Ryan Trieste back around to the plate to even the score, 2-2.
St. Thomas hit a RBI single to left field to end the ninth before the final out
Coming in as relief in the first,
Tyler Briggs threw for three scoreless innings and struck out one batter.

Nick Jaskolski hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in
Joey Skarad for the Pioneers' second run.
The final two Richmond runs came in the eighth to put the team up, 23-2.
