Sonia Smith free throws to take a 17-11 lead. Mount St. Mary's responded with five unanswered points, but the Pioneers would hold on to a one-point lead at the end.
In the second quarter, the Mountaineers outscored the Pioneers, 18-6, to take the 34-23 lead into halftime. Sacred Heart cut the lead to seven in the third quarter, but that's as close as the Pioneers would get the rest of the way.
After shooting 46.2 percent in the first quarter, the Pioneers struggled as they shot 28.8% (15-52) for the game. Mount St. Mary's outscored SHU 22-8 on points off 19 SHU turnovers and 30-16 in the paint.
Smith led the Pioneers in double figures with 13 points.
Kelsey Wood hauled in a team-high seven rebounds.
