Sacred Heart Revives Crosstown Rivalry with Fairfield on Sunday

FAIRFIELD, Conn.— After a six-year hiatus, the Sacred Heart University women's basketball team plays Fairfield for the first time since 2016. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at Leo D. Mahoney Arena on ESPN+.

  • Sacred Heart meets Fairfield for the first time in six years.
  • The Stags lead the overall series 10-6. The Pioneers won two of the last five meetings at Fairfield, including the last appearance in 2016 when they claimed the 56-44 victory over the Stags.
  • The crosstown rivalry began at Sacred Heart in 1975. Fairfield won the inagural game 59-42. The Pioneers got their first win against the Stags in the series in 1976, beating the Stags, 64-51.
  • The Pioneers are second in the Northeast Conference in offensive rebounds with 12.1 per game and fifth in rebounds overall at 35.7.
  • Ny'Ceara Pryor is a three-time NEC Rookie of the Week honoree. The guard is leading Sacred Heart with 15.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 4.1 steals per game in her inaugural college season. Pryor leads the NEC with 37 steals and 4.1 steals per game. The guard is nationally ranked third in steals per game and fourth in steals.
  • Carly Stroemel is second in the NEC in blocks (13) and blocks per game (1.4). The senior is nationally ranked 58th in blocks and 80th in blocks per game.
  • Mannetti is in her 10th season as head coach. She holds a 128-140 overall record, including 95-67 in NEC play.
