BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Six different players hit the net and the Sacred Heart Hockey Team completed a sweep of its pre-season weekend after a 6-4 win over Western Ontario at Total Mortgage Arena today.
The Pioneers, who open the regular season next Friday at 2015 national champion Providence College, erased an early deficit with four straight tallies and finished with a 46-25 advantage in shots on goal.
"We had a good camp this fall, so it's nice to see how we stack up against teams and get a benchmark of where we stand," said Pioneer captain Braeden Tuck, who had a goal on Saturday at UMass in a 3-2 win over the 2021 national champs. "This weekend was all about our work effort and ability to compete, which is what I liked most about the two games."
Forwards Ryan Steele, Marcus Joughin, Chikara Hanzawa and Kevin Lombardi (3-point day) and blueliners Conner Hutchison and Dante Fantauzzi hit the net for SHU, while Luke Lush made 19 saves in 52 minutes of work between the pipes.
"Tonight, we we found a way to win even though our execution within our system was not where it needed to be. Western Ontario exposed us in some areas that we will address next week," said C.J. Marottolo, the SHU Head Coach. "It was great to get goals from six different players, and I thought Luke Lush played well in the two-plus periods he played. We gained what we needed from the games this weekend."
