FAIRFIELD, Conn.— The Sacred Heart University women's basketball team's second-half rally wasn't enough to topple Mount St. Mary's, 60-51, on Friday night.

Mount St. Mary's went on a 12-0 run to start the contest to grab a double-digit cushion that the Pioneers could not recover from. Sacred Heart struggled to find an answer as it was held to just 26.7% (8-30) from the field in the first half and headed into the locker room with a 39-26 deficit.
In the third quarter, a free throw from
Adrianne Hagood would prompt an 11-4 run, including eight points from Tucker, to trim the Mountaineers lead to six points, 43-37. The Mount responded with an 8-2 run to regain their double-digit cushion heading into the final frame.
Still in the fight, Sacred Heart scored six unanswered points at the start of the fourth quarter to make it a four-point game, 51-47. But Mount St. Mary's used a 6-0 run of its own under the five-minute mark to cap off the night and bring the game to its final score.
The Pioneers shot 27.4% (17-62) from the field compared to the Mountaineers with 44.2% (23-52). Sacred Heart did have the advantage from the free-throw line as it shot 86.7% (13-15) from the stripe while Mount St. Mary's was 58.3% (7-12).
Three Pioneers scored in double-figures for the second-straight game.
Olivia Tucker led the Pioneers with a season-high 16 points.
Adrianne Hagood finished with 11 points while
Asia McCray tallied 10 points and led Sacred Heart with a career-high nine rebounds and three steals.
