FAIRFIELD, Conn.-The Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey team returns to the ice against Army West Point for a single game Tuesday night at Webster Bank Arena at 6:05 p.m.
Last Time Out... The Pioneers are coming off a split series with Bentley that came on Friday and Saturday. SHU dominated the first game notching a game-high three power-play goals in the 5-1 victory. SHU fell narrowly the following day 4-3 as senior Austin Magera scored his first goal since November 5.
Last Meeting... The last time the Pioneers faced the Black Knights came on December 2, 2021. SHU fell 4-1 in the contest with junior Braeden Tuck scoring the lone goal in the game. Sophomore Ryan Doolin earned his first collegiate point with an assist.
Scouting The Black Knights... The Black Knights enter tomorrows game with a 8-9-3 overall record and a 6-5-2-1 AHA record. Leading the team on offense is Colin Bilek who leads the team in points and assists. The teams top goaltender lies Gavin Abric who tallies a GAA of 2.28 and save percentage of .928. His overall record is 8-7-3.
Britt Leading the Defense... Junior transfer Logan Britt has been a solid addition to the Pioneers squad as he currently leads the team in assists with a career-high 11 on the year. He also leads all AHA defensemen in assists. The Crystal Lake, Ill. native has captured AHA Defensive Player of the Week three times this year including this week as he registered one goal alongside three assists for four points at Bentley.
Beware of Jaws... Sophomore John Jaworski took the reigns' of the Pioneer offense this past week at Bentley recording two goals and three assists over the weekend. He notched a pair of multi-point games while up in Waltham, Mass. registering one goal and two assists in game one and one goal and one assist in game two. He currently has five goals and seven assists on the year which is a career-high. Three of his goals this season have been on the power-play.
Tuck For Hobey... Junior forward Braeden Tuck, has been nominated for the 2022 Hobey Baker Award. Tuck is one of 77 nominees for the award, and one of nine from Atlantic Hockey. In its 41st year, the Hobey Baker Award is presented annually to the top NCAA Division I men's ice hockey player.
The team captain is second on the squad in points with 13 as he has accumulated a career-high seven goals and six assists. Last season, he earned a spot on the Second-Team All-AHA. In his freshman season he was named Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Year and selected to the First-Team All-AHA for his incredible 23 assist, five goal season.
