LATHAM, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart University men's tennis team picked up its first win of the season in a tight 4-3 victory at Holy Cross on Saturday before falling, 5-2, at Siena on Sunday. 
 
The duo of William Wibmer and Lefteri Apostolou grabbed the lone doubles win of the day over Will Chen and William Kelleher, 6-4. Phillip Lynch and Matyas Vencl forced a tiebreaker but were edged by Connor Nelson and Declan O'Flynn, 10-5, for the 7-6 victory in second doubles. 
 
All four of SHU's singles victories were in straight sets from Antoine Hernandez, Wibmer, Apostolou, and Vencl. Hernandez's win was the first of his career and helped the Pioneers clinch the match. Darius Eftekhar dropped the first set, 1-6, but forced a third by winning the second set, 6-2. The first-year ultimately dropped the third set, 5-10, at the six spot.  
 
At Siena, Darius Eftekhar and Wibmer were the only Pioneers to grab wins on the day. Wibmer was forced into a third set after dropping the tiebreak in the second. The senior ultimately beat out Tomas del Olmo in the super breaker, 10-5, to take the match. In similar fashion, Eftekhar won the first and third sets at the five spot.
