Pioneers Drop Second Game in the Opening Weekend at Clarkson

Cassandra Nevers tallies second assist of the season

POTSDAM, N.Y. — Erin Fleming netted her first career goal in the Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey program, 5-1, loss at Clarkson on Saturday. The Pioneers dropped both contests in New York for their opening weekend.

The Golden Knights scored four in the first two periods to secure a comfy 4-0 lead, with the third goal coming in off a power play at 7:16 in the second.

Halfway through the final period, Fleming slapped one past CU's Amanda Zegland, with help from Cassandra Nevers, to avoid the goose egg.

Clarkson outshot the visitors 43-14, but the Red & White blocked 27 shots compared to the Golden Knights five.

SHU's veteran goalie, Frankie Sanchez had 38 saves for a .887 save percentage.

The team heads home to host NEWHA opponent Saint Michael's College at the Sports Center of Connecticut on Shelton, with a 5:30 p.m. puck drop.
