SHU took the opening match over New Paltz 5-3

DOVER, Del.- The Sacred Heart University equestrian team started the 2021-22 season with a split at Delaware State this afternoon.
 
Score: SHU 5, New Paltz 3
  • New Paltz jumped out to an early 2-0 in flat as Brynley Smith scored the Hawks second point with a 87.5 as she rode Denali.
  • SHU answered back with a pair of points coming from sophomore Hanna Lloyd who scored a 93 on Finnegan and Lily Yampolsky from New Paltz who scored a 50 on Maverick to even the flat at 2-2.
  • In fences, junior Lilly Bove gave the Pioneers a point with a score of 80 on Ricky and a 86 by Lloyd on Tillie also contributed to the 3-1 fences victory for the Pioneers.
  • Lloyd was named the Most Outstanding Player of the meet.
 
Score: SHU 2, Delaware State 6
  • Bove would score the lone point for the Pioneers in flat as she tallied a score of 81.5 on Finnegan as SHU would fall 3-1.
  • Senior Danielle DeRisio recorded the highest score for SHU in fences tallying a 77 on Cici as Delaware State would claim three points while SHU was able to salvage one.
