The Sacred Heart University men's basketball team heads to the Ocean State for a pair of non-conference matchups. The Pioneers make their first stop at Brown on Sunday at 2 p.m. on ESPN+.

OPENING TIP

  • The Pioneers snapped a three-game losing streak, its longest since 2019, with a 74-67 road win at Lafayette.
  • Sacred Heart took the last meeting, 84-63, in 2019 at the Pitt Center, but has yet to pull out a win at the Pizzitola Sports Center in Providence, R.I. SHU is 3-5 all-time against Brown.
  • Brown enters Sunday's game 1-1 against Northeast Conference opponents this season. The Bears first topped Central Connecticut, 75-57, before falling to Bryant, 65-59, for its lone home loss of the year.
  • Fans can expect to see a high volume of three's during the contest. Brown ranks 14th in the country in there-point FG attempts at 238 while SHU ranks 57th with a total of 203.

TURNING THE AC ON
After sitting out for three-straight games (Providence, Binghamton, Fisher) senior Aaron Clarke has posted nothing but double-digit scoring performances and has led the Pioneers in three of the last four games. At Lafayette, Clarke shot 62.5% from the field (5-8) and 80% from three (4-5). AC has also combined for 11 assists in the last two outings.

FIFTH-YEAR, BEST YEAR
Graduate student Alex Watson has emerged as one of SHU's top scorers as he tallied double-digit scoring in the first four games to kick off the year. Prior to this season, Watson posted just nine double-digit performances across four years. Most recently, Watson recorded a career-high 17 points at Lafayette off an impressive 7-8 (87.5%) from the field and 3-4 (75%) from three. Watson's first 15 points came in the first half.

PHOTO FINISH
The last four games have been decided by ten points or less, not to mention SHU's OT win at La Salle thanks to a buzzer-beating three in regulation. Despite falling at NJIT, the Pioneers erased a 24-point first-half deficit to tie the game in the second frame. At Stony Brook, SHU was on the other side of a buzzer-beater to fall, 75-72.

GETTING AHEAD
The Pioneers have only overcame a halftime deficit once this year when they opened the season at La Salle. When trailing at the halftime break, SHU is 1-5. On the flip side, the Pioneers have yet to drop a game when they had the halftime advantage at 2-0.
