SHELTON, Conn. — The Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey team nabbed its second-straight win at Post on Friday. The Red & White defeated the Eagles, 5-1, in a non-conference matchup.
Co-captain
Kelly Solak ignited the scoring 17 minutes into the first period following a powerplay for her first goal of the season with help from
Anna Klein.
The Pioneers had an aggressive second period with three goals grow to a four-goal cushion. Hot off her assist in the first, Klein slapped one in at 11:38 with the assist from
Alexa Ocel. Three minutes later,
Kennedy Spiering tallied her first season goal off a powerplay when she connected on a pass from
Katie Keenan. Last week's NEWHA Defensive Player of the Week
Nicole Guidi drilled in her second goal of the season, assisted by Solak and Ocel with 13 minutes remaining in the second.
For the second time, Solak's stick connected for a powerplay goal to put up the Pioneers, 5-0.
SHU dominated on the offense by outshooting the home team, 82-14, and capitalized on three of its eight powerplays compared to the Eagle's who were 0-3.
Sacred Heart stays on the road as it travels to LIU on October 15 for its first conference contest of the season, with a 3 p.m. puck drop.
