Pioneers Set Two Pool Records On Senior Day

Results

The Sacred Heart University swimming and diving team fell to visiting Fairfield University 185.5-102.5 at the McCann Natatorium in Milford, Conn. The Pioneers fall to 5-6 on the year in dual meet action.

SHU honored three seniors prior to their final home meet. Anna Brown and Emily Shenk completed four year careers in the pool, while Nicole Pergolotti completed her final home meet on the board.

Lauren Somers earned three wins, setting a McCann Pool record in the 100-freestyle and team with Kim Hylan, Emily Peter and Margaret Flaherty to set a pool record in the 400-freestyle relay. Somers also captured the 200-freestyle and anchored the second place 200-medley relay.

The Pioneers are in action twice in the coming week, traveling to New Britain for the CCSU Spring Meet on January 26 and to Newark, N.J. to take on Monmouth on January 27.

 

Sprints

  • Somers touched at 52.49 to lower her own pool record (52.67) from a season ago and just .26 seconds shy of her own school record
  • Somers earned the win on the 200 free as well, touching at 1:55.19
  • Peter placed second in the with a swim of 25.58 and Hylan placed third at 25.73

Relays

  • Hylan, Peter, Flaherty and Somers won the 400-freestyle relay with a time of 3:39.63, nearly two full seconds under the LIU Brooklyn time from 2017
  • The Pioneers placed second in the 200-medley relay, with Anna Brown leadings off with a 28.83 split in the backstroke
  • Jessica Poole (31.46), Peter (26.47) and Somers (24.02) followed

Distance

  • Flaherty placed second in the 1,000-freestyle, with a swim of 10:51.45
  • The rookie also placed second in the 500-freestyle, touching at 5:16.30

Strokes

  • Brown won the 200-backstroke, with a swim of 2:14.43 and was second in the 100-backstroke, at 1:01.71
  • Nikole Rudis finished as the runner-up in the 200-butterfly, with a 2:13.45 final time
  • Peter was second in the 100-butterfly, with a final time of 59.04
  • Poole was third in the 200 IM with a 2:16.58 effort

Diving

  • Pergolotti was second in both diving events
