Box Score SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Sacred Heart men's lacrosse team moved to 2-2 in NEC play Saturday with a 13-7 loss to the Bryant Bulldogs at Bryant Track & Turf Complex.
Bryant (7-5, 3-1 NEC) opened the game on a 3-0 run, getting goals from Jake Buonaiuto, Brett Baker, and Ryan Sharpe. The Pioneers answered with a three-goal run of their own in the last 4:22 of the quarter. Tuttle started the run, with Garritano finding the back of the net with 0:40 left. Saggese then beat the buzzer, with an assist from Connor O'Reilly, to tie the game 3-3 heading into the second quarter. The Bulldogs came alive in the second, outscoring SHU 6-1 to take a 9-4 halftime lead. The Pioneers' lone goal in the second came from Jake Giaquinto for his first career goal.
Sacred Heart (6-4, 2-2 NEC) was outshot 12-8 in the third quarter as Bryant tacked on four more goals to take a 13-4 lead. The Pioneers held the Bulldogs scoreless in the fourth. Bryce Jurk scored a man-up goal with 13:25 remaining to make the score 13-5. Masi then scored back-to-back goals to get the Pioneers back within six, 13-7, with 5:00 left but that would be as close as SHU would get.
Bryant outshot Sacred Heart 39-29 and held a 35-22 advantage in groundballs. The Bulldogs also won 17 of 22 faceoffs. Cam Ziegler led Bryant with four points on three goals and an assist. Baker also had a hat trick. James Werner had eight saves in goal.
The Pioneers are back at Campus Field on Saturday, April 15 against Saint Joseph's at 12 p.m.
