SHU Moves to 2-1 in NEC Play with Second Straight Win

STATEN ISLAND – The Sacred Heart men's tennis team won for a second consecutive day, defeating Wagner 5-2 in Northeast Conference play to move to 2-1 in the league and 7-11 overall.

Cory Seltman made it a perfect 3-0 for the weekend in singles, taking his sixth flight match 8-1 after SHU's victory had already been clinched. He extends his team-lead in victories to 14 as he has now won four of five.

Brian Power completed a perfect afternoon for the second day in a row by winning both his singles and doubles match. After moving to .500 at 11-11 with doubles partner Matt Dean with a 6-1 victory at the first position, he took his first singles match 6-2, 6-4 for his tenth win of the season.

Dean also won his singles match, battling through two close sets with his second singles opponent before prevailing 7-6, 6-4. Derek Chapman was the fourth Pioneer to win at singles, taking the first set at position four, 6-4, before sweeping the second to move just one match under .500 at 11-12.

That completed a perfect day for Chapman, who earlier in the day paired with Karan Narula for their fourth straight victory, winning 6-2 at third doubles to improve to 6-5 overall.

Sacred Heart hosts NJIT its home finale this Thursday at the Pioneer Tennis Courts at 3 pm.
