Box Score The Sacred Heart women's volleyball team lost a heartbreaking 5 set match to Central Connecticut State, resulting in their first loss in conference play. The Pioneers record now moves to 12-7 overall and 5-1 in conference.
The Pioneers got things started on the right foot as they took the first set 25-22. Helping to Pioneers take the first set was senior libero Ana Gonzalez who recorded several digs and a service ace.
The second set was not in favor of the Pioneers as the Blue Devils got into a rhythm and took the set 25-12. The Blue Devils managed to jump to an early lead and that was all they needed to tie the match up at 1 set a piece.
In the third set of the night senior Sarah Krufka did all she could to keep the Pioneers in the game. Krufka recorded 7 kills alone, but came up shy dropping the set 25-22.
The Pioneers gained back momentum in the fourth set of the night. The duo of Sarah Krufka and Makayla Dole kept the Pioneers alive as Krufka recorded 6 kills, and Dole added two service aces to take the fourth set by a score of 25-23.
Going into the final set of the night the Pioneers were trailing 5-9 early. Although Gianna Scioletti added two kills for herself, The Pioneers fell short of the comeback victory dropping the final set by a score of 15-9.
The Pioneers are back at home Wednesday October 12th as they take on cross town rival Fairfield University at 6:00pm.
