WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The Sacred Heart men's tennis team was defeated by Saint Francis U 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the Northeast Conference Championships at the Mercer Country Tennis Center on Friday afternoon. The Red Flash took the doubles point before winning the first three singles matches for the necessary four points. SHU ends its season at 4-14, while SFU moves on to the semifinals with an 8-8 record.
Brian Power and Matt Dean came closest to a Pioneer victory at first doubles, as the two were edged 8-6 in Saint Francis U's decisive doubles point. The Red Flash had taken the third doubles match 8-2 earlier.
SFU then won the first, third, and fourth singles matches to seal its spot in the semifinals. The Pioneers were not able to win more than three games in any of those matches.
Freshman Mathieu Pilote-Schraenen won the first set of his match before being denied the opportunity for a victory because of the Red Flash win.
