Box Score HANOVER, N.H. – Senior attack Ian Farley (Camillus, N.Y.) beat the final buzzer Wednesday to give the Sacred Heart men's lacrosse team a 10-9 win over the Dartmouth Big Green at Scully-Fahey Field.
Farley had two goals on the day and an assist, as did midfielders Alex Dodge (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Bryce Jurk (Burlington, Ont.). Julian Garritano (Markham, Ont.) also had three points on a goal and two assists. Brian Masi (Smithtown, N.Y.) led Sacred Heart with three goals. Goalie Jon Flood (Bay Shore, N.Y.) made seven saves.
Sacred Heart (1-1) scored first Wednesday, as Masi fired home a Thomas Diplacido (Wrentham, Mass.) pass to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead with 9:27 remaining in the opening quarter. Jurk then put Sacred Heart up 2-0 with 9:16 to play in the first. Dartmouth got on the board at the 8:38 mark when an Evan Key goal made the score 2-1. Alex Dodge (Smithtown, N.Y.) put the Pioneers ahead 3-1 with 4:47 left in the first. The Big Green cut the lead to one, 3-2, before the end of the quarter on a Jack Korzelius goal.
Dartmouth (0-3) tied the game, 3-3, at the 9:37 mark of the second quarter on another Korzelius tally. Jurk broke the tie with his second goal of the game, putting Sacred Heart ahead 4-3 with 8:08 left in the first half. The Big Green answered with a three-goal run, capped off by a Patrick Campbell goal, to take a 6-4 lead with 3:06 remaining in the half. Masi cut the deficit to one with his second tally of the game at the 2:29 mark of the second quarter. Senior attack Ian Farley (Camillus, N.Y.) tied the game 6-6 with 1:10 left in the half, getting an assist from Jurk. Dartmouth took a 7-6 lead into halftime as Korzelius scored with 0:09 remaining to give the Big Green a one goal advantage.
Dodge tied the game 7-7 3:14 into the third quarter. Julian Garritano (Markham, Ont.) then put Sacred Heart back in the lead, 8-7, with his goal at the 9:43 mark. Dartmouth leveled the game at 8-8 when Korzelius notched his fourth goal of the game with 0:33 left in the third quarter. Masi completed his hat trick with 6:07 to play in the game, as his third goal gave the Pioneers a 9-8 lead. Dartmouth tied the game for the sixth time with 0:23 left in regulation when Jack Connolly made the score 9-9. Mike Calvagna (Holbrook, N.Y.) won the ensuing faceoff, giving the Pioneers the final possession of regulation. In the final seconds, Dodge found Farley for the game-winning goal as time expired to give Sacred Heart the 10-9 win.
Sacred Heart outshot Dartmouth 41-29 for the game. The Big Green held a 23-22 edge in groundballs.
The Pioneers wrap up their season-opening road trip Saturday, March 7 with a 3 p.m. game at Providence.
