NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University men's tennis team swept Fordham 7-0 in non-conference action at Yale University on Saturday evening. The Pioneers won all nine matches played as they are now 1-7 on the year.

Justin Pagan, Brian Power, Karan Narula, and Cory Seltman all swept their opponents in singles play. Pagan was victorious 6-2, 6-4 at first singles, while Power battled to through two tough sets to ultimately come out on top 7-5, 6-4 at fourth singles. At fifth and sixth singles, Narula and Seltman dropped only three and two games, respectively. For Seltman, it was his first career collegiate singles dual victory.

Mathieu Pilote-Schraenen and Matt Dean both won the first set of their respective matches before having to battle through a three set tiebreak before ultimately coming out on top. Pilote prevailed 10-6 in his tiebreak at second singles, while Dean was victorious after a 10-5 triumph at third singles.

Doubles play was much closer, but again SHU fought to sweep. Dean and Power were pushed the furthest at first doubles, not winning until the 15^th and final game, 8-7. It was much of the same at second doubles, where Pilote teamed with Pagan to narrowly escape 8-6. The most comfortable victory in doubles play came from Narula and Francisco Del Valle Diaz, who beat their competitors 8-4. Like Seltman, it was Del Valle Diaz's first career collegiate dual doubles win.

Sacred Heart will play another non-conference match at Saint Peter's on Tuesday at 3 pm before opening both its home and conference schedule next Saturday against Fairleigh Dickinson at 1 pm.
