Box Score WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (October 23, 2015)—Rebecca Hauser scored for the Pioneers in the second half as the Sacred Heart field hockey team fell to Monmouth 3-1 on Friday evening. Mary Altepeter made nine saves as the Pioneers fall to 2-12 on the season and 0-4 in MAAC play.
SHU continues the road trip at Rider on Sunday before returning home next Friday, Oct. 30 to host Fairfield at 7:00 p.m. on Senior Day.
First Half:
- Monmouth got on the board in the game's 10th minute with Alyssa Ercolino's first goal of the season. Ercolino took a corner for the Hawks, passing the ball to Casey Hanna who took a swing for goal, the junior saw the shot going astray and deflected it into the cage
- The Pioneers were outshot 6-2 in the half and did not manage to put one on goal
Second Half:
- Hauser evened the score in the game's 50th minute on a penalty stroke. Seeing Monmouth goalkeeper Christen Piersanti going to her right, the rookie shot towards the center. The ball just touched Piersanti's pad on its way into the cage.
- Georgia Garden Bachop and Ercolino clinched the game for the Hawks with goals in the 57th and 68th minutes respectively.
- Rachel Claroni led the Pioneers with three shots as SHU was outshot a total of 21-5 times
