Final Stats

FAIRFIELD, CT - The Sacred Heart men's basketball team closed out the regular season Saturday with a 90-60 non-conference win over visiting Bryant University. The Pioneers got 18 points apiece from senior Ryon Howard (Bronx, NY) and junior Corey Hassan (Merrimack, NH).

Senior Joey Henley (Kent, WA) finished with 13 points for the Pioneers, who also got double figures from sophomore Jerrell Thompson (Plainfield, NJ).

SHU, 16-13, took control of the game seven minutes into the first half when a Hassan trey gave the Pioneers a 17-15 lead. The Pioneers scored 12 of the next 16 to lead 29-18 with 8:17 left in the half and carried that into a 43-31 lead at the intermission.

A pair of Hassan threes and one by junior Ryan Litke (Windsor, CT) had the Pioneers up by 18 at the first media timeout and the Bulldogs never threatened again. Hassan, who finished 6-9 from three, banged in another with 13:48 left to put the Pioneers ahead 61-40.

Sacred Heart shot 60 percent from the field in the game (33-55). It was the third time in the last seven games the Pioneers have shot at least 60 percent for a game. They were also 15-26 from three-point range (15-26).

Bryant, 8-21, was led by Jerrann Wright with 15 points and Cecil Gresham with ten.

The Pioneers will be the #3 seed in the upcoming Northeast Conference Tournament and will host #6 seed Central Connecticut Thursday night at 7:00.
