NEWARK, NJ - The Sacred Heart women's volleyball team finished the New Jersey Institute of Technology's Halloween Classic with a 1-2 record, after dropped a 3-1 decision to Providence and a 3-2 decision to host NJIT Saturday afternoon. Sacred Heart won its opening match over Howard on Friday, 3-1.

Freshman Mydori Saipale (Oxnard, CA) was named to the All-Tournament Team after finishing the three matches with 36 kills and 55 digs.

SHU, now 9-15, won the opening game against Providence, 30-28. Ten attack errors in game two caught up to the Pioneers and they fell 30-21. The Friars won a tough game three 30-27, thanks to 19 kills. A combination of eight attack errors and four service errors sunk the Pioneers in game four, as Providence closed out the match with a 30-18 win.

In the final match of the day, SHU gave the host Highlanders all they could handle. Saipale and sophomore Annie Archer (Littleton, CO) had 13 kills apiece as the Pioneers pushed NJIT to a deciding fifth game. Five Pioneer attack errors in the final game allowed the Highlanders, 11-19, to finish their own tournament with a 3-0 mark.

The Pioneers are off until next Saturday when they make the "west coast" Northeast Conference swing to Robert Morris and Saint Francis (PA).
