WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - Steve Silva ran for three touchdowns, caught a touchdown pass and threw a pair of scoring passes as Holy Cross opened the season with a 56-21 win over Sacred Heart.
Both of Silva's touchdown passes were thrown to quarterback John O'Neil, who completed 15 of 21 passes of 215 yards and two scores.
Sacred Heart (0-1) jumped to a 14-0 lead in the first 4:35 of the game on Ed Pricolo's 1-yard run and Tyler Arciaga's 14-yard touchdown pass to Joey Henley.
But the Crusaders (1-0) responded with 49 unanswered points.
Silva threw an 8-yard scoring pass to O'Neil and scored on a 4-yard run, and O'Neil threw scoring passes of 25 yards to Silva and 77 yards to Sean Gruber as the Crusaders took a 28-14 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Silva threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to O'Neil and scored on runs of 9 and 6 yards in the second quarter as Holy Cross took a 49-14 halftime lead.
Silva rushed for 85 yards on 15 carries.
Pricolo led Sacred Heart with 91 yards and two touchdowns rushing on 21 carries.
