Pioneers Top Brown for First Win of 2005

Sept. 14, 2005

Final Stats

Providence, RI - Sacred Heart scored three second-half goals en route to a 3-0 victory over the Brown field hockey team on Wednesday afternoon, as the Pioneers posted their first win of the 2005 season.

The two teams played a scoreless first half, and less than three minutes into the second half, junior Jenna McLane (Stowe, VT/Stowe) scored her first of two goals to give Sacred Heart a 1-0 lead.

That goal would be all the Pioneers would need in the victory. However, just 2:37 later, senior Nicole Falco (Ocean, NJ/Ocean Township) assisted on junior Becky Ford's (Salem, NH/Salem) goal to give Sacred Heart a 2-0 lead. McLane scored her second goal with 18:30 remaining to put the game away.

Junior Ashley Del Greco (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack) made five saves to notch her first shutout.

Sophomore Kristen Hodavance made five saves in net for Brown, including a diving stick-save with 5:43 left in the first half on a one-on-one. Junior Evelyn Brosi came in to relieve Hodavance and played the final 12:54, but did not see any shots.

The Pioneers are back in action Sunday when they open Northeast Conference play by visiting St. Francis(PA). Game time is 11:00 am.
