FAIRFIELD, CT (October 15, 2005) - The Sacred Heart volleyball team lost their first Northeast Conference match of 2005, falling in three games to league leader Central Connecticut Saturday afternoon in Fairfield. The Blue Devils posted wins of 30-21, 30-28 and 30-15 to improve to 11-3 overall and 2-0 in the NEC while the Pioneers fall to 4-14 overall and 1-1 in the league.
Central got a solid all around effort offensively led by senior Chantelle Bowden who posted 12 kills and also had seven digs, two service aces and a block. Freshman Amanda Olmstead and sophomore Jacqui Jackson each had eight kills. Olmstead hit .375 (8-2-16) in the match to lead the team while Jackson just missed double digit digs with nine.
Junior setter Brynn Good passed out 37 assists and collected 13 digs. Sophomore libero Katie Seamon mad 10 digs and senior Grace Sobkiewicz had 11.
The Pioneers got a pair of 10 kills efforts out of junior Brenda Bailey (Costa Mesa, CA) and sophomore Christine Duffy (Massapequa, NY). Bailey also finished with seven digs and a pair of blocks. Senior setter Michelle Clarke (Baltimore, MD) assisted on 33 kills and collected 11 digs. SHU's Katie Thomas (Wappingers Falls, NY) and Justina Bell (Holcomb, KS) each had 11 digs also.
Sacred Heart will return to the court on Saturday, October 22nd at Robert Morris and Sunday, October 23rd at St. Francis (PA).
