NORTHFORD, CT (November 8, 2003) - The Sacred Heart University
men's ice hockey team lost their sixth consecutive game as they
fell to Quinnipiac (5-4, 3-0 AH) in the second game of a weekend
series 4-2. The Pioneers are now 0-6-0 to start the 2003-04 season
and are 0-3-0 in Atlantic Hockey contests.
Quinnipiac took the lead in the closing minutes of the first
period when Chris White scored his fourth goal of the season,
giving the Bobcats a 1-0 lead after the first period. That lead
grew to 2-0 when Craig Falite scored his third of the season at
4:49 of the second period. Sacred Heat quickly answered just :25
later when Erik
Roos scored his first goal of the season unassisted at 5:14,
making it a 2-1 game.
Matt Craig reestablished the two-goal lead for Quinnipiac at
9:03 of the second period with his fifth goal of the season. Craig
also had an assist in the game. Ryan Morton made it a 4-1 game at
13:30 of the second period.
The Pioneers tried to get back in the game in the third and
closed the gap to 4-2 with a power play goal from Rocco Molinaro,
his second goal of the season.
Unfortunately that was as close as the Pioneers would get.
Sacred Heart pulled goaltender Kevin LaPointe
with 2:01 remaining in the game but were unable to Bobcats
goaltender Jamie Holden, who made 41 saves in the game, 19 of which
were in the third period. LaPointe made 27 saves for SHU.
This turned out to be a very physical game, especially in the
third period as both teams were penalized for a combined 110
minutes in the final frame. There were 128 total penalty minutes in
the game.
Sacred Heart will return to action with a home and home series
against Army next weekend. The Pioneers will be at Army on November
14 at 7:00 p.m. and will return to the Milford Ice Pavilion the
following night when they host the Black Knights at 5:00 p.m.
