Pinho, who joined Sacred Heart University in January of 2022 as the Student-Athlete Support Services Coordinator, was promoted in July 2023 to Assistant Athletics Director for Student Athlete Support Services.
He provides academic support to student-athletes, including time management skills, organizational skills, study hall requirements, academic advising, class registration, and progress towards degree. Pinho currently works directly with field hockey, women's basketball, baseball, women's lacrosse, swimming & diving, men’s and women’s golf, men’s wrestling, and women’s wrestling as their direct academic liaison.
Pinho leads all student-athlete development initiatives, which includes supervising SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee), Every Heart is Sacred (DEI group) and Team Impact partnership. He also tracks all community service initiatives and provides reports on the NEC Building Communities Award, Pioneer Cup and SASS annual report.
He serves as the primary contact to professors for all injured student-athletes. Working closely with the athletic training staff to convey academic restrictions placed upon student-athletes when recovering from injuries. He actively works with student-athletes and professors to create return to learn plans.Â
Prior to SHU, he worked at Rivier University (Nashua, NH) in April of 2021 as the Career Services and Internship Coordinator and the Head Coach of the Men’s and Women’s Cross-Country program. Pinho coached senior Samantha Molinari to a GNAC All-Conference performance and program best individual placement at the NE Regional Championship. As head cross-country coach, Pinho oversaw all aspects of the program, including the development of training programs, recruiting and travel.
Within the career services office, he provided coaching and advising to students across the university regarding career exploration and development of professional skills in preparation for internship experiences. Provided career coaching to students seeking internship opportunities, including providing advisement on the registration process for academic internships through Handshake. Provided support to academic departments interested in increasing their students' participation in experiential learning and internship opportunities. Created and present pre and post-workshops for students participating in academic internships.
Pinho is a 2018 and 2020 graduate of Springfield College with a B.S. in Physical Education and Master of Education with a concentration in Athletic Administration. While earning a Master of Education degree in Athletic Administration at Springfield College, Pinho served as a graduate assistant and extensively with both residence life and cross country and track programs during this time. Through his leadership and direction, the program qualified for multiple NCAA regional and national competitions. He also served Co-Chair of the Athletic Administration Leadership Committee.
During his time as an undergraduate student, Pinho was recognized as a two-time NCAA Division III All-American and Academic All-American. Â He also served as a Resident Assistant for three years and member of Springfield's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Pinho broke five men's track and field program records during his career. Â Pinho is the current Springfield College men's indoor track and field program record holder in the indoor 800-meter run (1:52.11), 1000-meter run (2:25.09) and one mile (4:07.89).
He also holds the outdoor 800-meter run (1:52.48) and 1500-meter run (3:47.90) program records for outdoor. Â Pinho also previously held the NCAA Division III indoor 1000M collegiate record from 2018-2022. Â As a cross country student-athlete, Pinho was a two-time NEWMAC All-Conference and USTFCCCA NE All-Region performer during his career.
